Labels that link each product to its digital passport.
A digital product passport needs a reliable data carrier on the product. ZTSPT supplies QR, NFC and RFID labels with unique identifiers, and helps you link them to your product data.
Why digital product passports matter.
The EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781) introduces digital product passports: product information such as materials, origin, repair and end-of-life data, made accessible through a data carrier on the product. Requirements are set product group by product group through separate EU rules, so timing and data content depend on what you sell.
Even before a requirement applies to your products, a passport-ready identifier on the label lets you share sustainability and product data with customers, retailers and recyclers, and makes later compliance work easier.
Digital product passport labels and data carriers.
Passport-ready QR codes
Unique, serialized QR codes printed on labels, tags or packaging, linking each product to its passport or product page.
NFC and RFID carriers
NFC tags for smartphone access and RFID labels that connect the passport identifier to inventory and logistics processes.
Unique identifiers and serialization
Product-level identities and serialization, with encoding to GS1 standards where you use GS1 identifiers.
Linked product data
Support in structuring product, material and lifecycle information so that each identifier connects to the right data.
QR, NFC or RFID for your passport?
| Data carrier | How it is read | Strengths | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| QR / 2D code | Any smartphone camera | Lowest cost, works everywhere, easy for consumers | Needs line of sight; unique serialized codes per item if you need item-level data |
| NFC | Tap with a smartphone | Fast consumer access; chips can add authentication | Higher unit cost; one item at a time |
| UHF RFID | RFID readers, many items at once | Connects the passport identifier to stock, logistics and returns | Consumers cannot read it with a phone, so it is usually combined with QR |
Preparing your products step by step.
- Map your requirementsWhich products, markets and data are in scope, and which identifiers you already use.
- Choose identifier and carrierWe recommend QR, NFC, RFID or a combination, and the label construction for each product.
- Samples and pilotTest scanning, the data link and the user experience on a pilot range before scaling.
- Production and encodingLabels with unique identifiers are produced and encoded under ISO 9001:2015 quality management.
- Scale and maintainRoll out across ranges and keep identifiers and product data in sync as products change.
